The SKF TWIM 15 induction Bearing Heater has been specially designed to heat up roller bearings as well as other ring-shaped, metallic components.
“By eliminating the need to use force, the Bearing Heater facilitates the bearing installation process, subsequently keeping uptime to a maximum,” states Eddie Martens, SKF Product Manager – MaPro, and he explains how the portable solution works: “This innovative device applies medium-frequency technology to heat the bearing, which is mounted with an interference-fit onto a shaft, generating a temperature difference of up to a 90°C between the bearing and the shaft. This subsequently causes the bearing to expand and can then be easily removed.”
The electric TWIM 15 boasts a range of value adding features that deliver several cost and time saving benefits for the end-user. The device is fitted with two power settings, enabling sensitive components to be heated up at a slower pace. Moreover, a non-bearing power configuration is also possible where most of the power is focused on the bore of the component.
The TWIM 15 is manufactured from glass-fiber, high temperature-resistant plastic material which, combined with operating software, produces a low temperature difference between the bearing’s inner and outer rings. “This helps to reduce internal tensions generated by excessive thermal expansion of the inner ring compared to the outer ring,” notes Martens.
The induction plate features a flat shape design that eliminates the need for a support yoke and conveniently allows for a variety of components to be heated on the plate. Martens adds that this versatile design also reduces the number of required accessories.
Thanks to the heater’s robust construction material, paired with the medium-frequency technology, the device is lightweight and noise-free, for optimum operator comfort. The temperature is regulated on the easy-to-navigate LED control panel which also conveniently displays heat readings and indicates when the TWIM 15 is operational. A practical built-in handle makes for easy transportation and storage.
The user-friendly SKF TWIM 15 does not require any special training and provides a fully portable, hassle-free, value adding solution for heating bearings and similar components.
